New Year...New Mindset

As we approach a new year it's common for most people to set new goals. I am always on the fence about these New Years resolutions because I feel why not start now, today? But, I get it! Sometimes it does kickstart our minds for a fresh start and a chance to reset.

With that being said, what are your goals for the new year? This is a great time to create a vision board, journal, and or create that action plan. It's amazing to set goals as long as you identify what your action plan is going to be in order to accomplish those goals. Set realistic goals that are actually attainable and reasonable.

ACTION!!!! I am all about creating the action plan because most goals fail due to not having a step by step guide to get to where you want to be. If your confused or unable to create an action plan on your own maybe this is a first step to starting counseling. Sometimes we need a little help, guidance, and support to identify those action steps. If that is not for you then back track and write out your plan so you can visibly see and make more sense of it.

What are we leaving behind? While it's great to set new goals we also have to be mindful of what problematic and negative behaviors and or thoughts we want to leave behind. Sometimes it's not all about starting new or adding but letting go and leaving. One helpful tip is creating a list of things you wish to let go of this year (behaviors, thoughts, views, feelings) Think about why you want to let these things go and how they have hinder your progress this year. Once you are done, rip it, shred it, throw it out! Get rid of these things once and for all and know in your mind this is it, you are saying goodbye to these things.

It will be normal for those things to creep back into your mind at some point but I want you to be able to recall your list and the visual of you throwing it away or shredding it. Think about what purpose it has in your current life, I bet you won't be able to find one.

Finally, I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season. A new year full of new opportunity and chances to take on your biggest obstacles and GET IT DONE!!

Happy New You!
